Beautiful Banff
line
July, 2008

We were lucky enough to get a call from RCI that an opening in this busy season of summer had come available in Banff, Alberta.

It happened that our family and grandchildren were destined for Pacific Shores Resort & Spa the same week on their annual vacation, and to return to the island resort during school holidays.

Banff is a good day's drive and close to friends in Calgary, so we headed off early, with our favourite stops along the way for breakfast & lunch breaks.

Arriving late afternoon, we settled in with room service, cool refreshment, and an early shutdown to get a fresh start next day.

Banff is an easy walkable town to see and shop, so we 'did our duties' through the tourist traps, and did the shopping we needed for the room before heading for the touring and scenic spots.

We found the cable-cars were quite crowded that afternoon, so we drove to other less busy spots, planned the Sulphur mountain climb for early the next day, opting for a walk along Bow river to the Falls, and later look at the hoodoos.

The Falls was where the river rafts were launching below from, which we did not do, but looked easy as there were young children on board.

Next morning early, we did the cable-car ride to the top, where the view of Banff, Bow river, the valley and mountains peaks in all directions was spectacular. It could be an all day stay just to see the sights, plus some wildlife at that height.

We did a trip into Calgary, just over an hour down the highway to see friends for a couple of days, then back to finish our scenic trips around the area, Kananaskis one way, Lake Louise and ice-fields the other, both close by.

The most spectacular moment happened just beside a lesser road, where we were stopped by the traffic and crowd all viewing a very large bull elk with full rack, munching his way casually along the roadside, as pictured.

So, our week was complete with views of nature and its finest scenery, with photo-images of all we saw and enjoyed in the peaceful serenity of the Rocky mountains, and accompanied by a family of ground squirrels at our room, who shared our peanuts willingly.

Meanwhile, our family had a great time at the Pacific Shores Resort & Spa, and we all had stories to trade of our wonderful trips away on the island and in the mountain resorts.
