Poipu Beach with the Family
line
August, 2008

We are just back from our first family vacation in Kauai since our daughter was born almost four years ago. My husband and myself honeymooned in Kauai so it holds a special place in our hearts!

This year we were thrilled to bring not only our daughter, but my Mother and one of my sisters. This was a trip to celebrate my Mum's 70th Birthday as she has been an amazing Mum as well as Grandma to our daughter and it was the least we could do for her.

We booked our trip in November 2007, and were lucky enough to secure a one week stay with our RCI Points (booked on-line) at the Point at Poipu on Kauai's beautiful south shore from April 10-17.

The resort is absolutely amazing and is built to take full advantage of the ocean view. Beautifully kept grounds, wonderful staff and the pool was just perfect for our four year old daughter, who had just started swimming on her own.

They have a welcome breakfast buffet by the pool with lots of great information on the island as well as wonderful prizes.

We were lucky enough to win a free sunset cruise! There is a small playground structure for kids, as well as fun activities from Sunday to Thursday including lei making and hula lessons.

Though the beach is not suitable for swimming it is quite a sight to see with the black volcanic rock, and there is also a nice oceanfront walkway to the Hyatt next door where we went for the Luau.

The Point at Poipu has a beautiful, large swimming pool with a man-made beach. There is a small playground for the kids, too. Not far away are two lovely shopping centres.

Just moments away is Poipu, the most popular beach in Kauai, where we saw dolphins jumping, turtles riding the waves, as well as a turtle and monk seal resting on the beach.

You can never be short of fun activities in Kauai. A short drive away is Lihue where you can view the cruise ships, shop, walk along the oceanfront walkway and eat Hula Pie at Duke's.

Not far from there is Lydgate Park where there are two protected swimming areas you can snorkel and view the fantastic fish.

Further north we enjoyed Tunnels Beach which, to me, is the most amazing place to snorkel in Kauai. The reef, fish and mountains make it the perfect surrounding. Hanalei Bay was excellent for bodyboarding, and Hanalei is a cute little town.

One way to really appreciate the beauty of Kauai is to take a helicopter tour, which my husband did. It was just amazing! The photos and video he took are breathtaking.

We would highly recommend this resort and are already thinking about returning next year!
