Pleasant Surprise

We had a delightful experience at "The Mountain Retreat" in Arnold, California. We used a week we had banked with RCI and we did not have our hopes set too high as we had never been to this resort. We were wonderfully surprised with a great two bedroom, two and a half bath unit in the Comstock section.

We were able to take our luggage from the car into the bedrooms on the lower level, each with their own bathroom. Upstairs a well appointed kitchen, living room, dining room and half bath gave us comfortable surroundings.

A short walk takes you to the clubhouse and golf course which offers their facilities to the guests of the Mountain Retreat.

A front deck with gorgeous views plus a back deck with a round wood table, lounge chairs, barbecue, and adjacent to the golf course, offered a great place to relax.

What's in Arnold?

You might ask what do you do in Arnold? Five minutes up the road is Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Giant sequoias with wonderful walking trails and miles to explore.

Nearby are many gold towns with theaters, shops, great restaurants, and wineries by the bunch. Ironstone Winery with it's vaulted piece of crystalline gold is a sight to behold in addition to a wonderful tour and wine tasting.

The new Black Oak Casino with fine dining and great slots plus all the other games is a nice drive through picturesque country. The fall color was wonderful but for those of you who love to cross country or downhill ski, Bear Valley is only about 30 minutes up the road from Arnold. In the summer there are lakes with beaches nearby.

I can heartily recommend the Mountain Retreat for a week you will treasure. The staff is very nice and the facilities include an indoor pool, sauna, racquetball, tennis and a gathering room with an ice cream social each week plus other planned activities. We really enjoyed our stay.
