The Oregon Coast
line
January 2007

Recently we were fortunate enough to get back to the Oregon Coast, at the Otter Rock Resort, Otter Crest.

We say fortunate, as the Oregon Coast does not open up for trades very often as, obviously, the owners there don't want to give up the sights and sounds of the Pacific coastal region. For good reason, as we found out once again.

Otter Rock is about half way perhaps down the coast, with two main centres nearby. Newport was just south of us, and Lincoln City just to the north, both within a short scenic drive, and ladies, shopping in both centres including Factory Outlet stores.

Depoe Bay and Salishan were also nearby between Otter Rock and Lincoln City, so there many choices of where to eat, shop, sightsee or just 'walk and gawk'.

But, there is so much for everyone in that area, you can't get enough even in a week's time, or for some, get enough photos to aptly describe what you see.

First of all, of course, the broad blue Pacific just rolls calmly in, giving that soothing relaxing feeling with all, and leaving one feeling that all is well with the world.

Then, the rocky precipices and escarpments along parts of the shoreline is like a masterpiece of nature's carvings, never two the same, but all just awesome to watch as, at times with the right surf, the waves crash and splash into white-waters - a great sight for the camera buffs!

Along other areas of shoreline, the surf slides back and forth onto never-ending miles of golden sandy beaches. Hikers on the long beaches look like ants, as the beaches are never crowded with the many up and down the coast to choose from.

Nature also shows itself in many ways with wild-life close and plentiful all around us. Sea-lions dockside and in droves along the shores, harbour seals begging for scraps of freshly caught fish, gray whales feeding close by along the shoreline, many types of sea birds besides the obvious seagulls all around us.

And if that's not enough, the Aquarium in Newport is a great spot to see what you may miss underwater, and elsewhere.

If that's not enough, for the seafood lovers, all varieties of seafood are offered fresh daily at the many restaurants and dining spots too numerous to name, but many with a great view of that blue, blue Pacific which never stops rolling in.

Whatever your interest, the Oregon coast has it, and if you miss it this trip, that's a great reason to return again soon.

You can't get enough, or stay long enough, and all the photos can't express enough about the Oregon coast... and that was only a small area of it!
