One of the most popular cruising choices worldwide, Alaska is best seen in late August or early September.

Alaska is prized as one of North America's - even the world's - last raw wilderness areas.

Cruising in Alaska:

Be aware when you visit, many forest and ocean areas are protected parkland. Some areas require permits and some prohibit entry - making sightseeing from a cruise ship ideal.

A popular spot for cruisers is Glacier Bay as it can only be reached by air or water. The sparkling aqua-coloured water dotted with icebergs is a spectacular sight.

Be sure to confirm with your cruise operator that your package includes a scheduled visit to the park which is open from late May to early September.

Other must-see wonders of Alaska include the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. Visible from late August through early April, these lights appear in shades of green, red, blue and purple.

The fantastic display is caused solar particles colliding with the earth's magnetic field. Although the lights are active year-round, they show up best on the night sky and can be viewed throughout Alaska.
