Planning Ahead

We started to plan our trip about one year in advance. We were travelling with 6 students for 10 days in Russia and when we sent them home with the other chaperones, my husband and I were on our way to Finland.

We booked a week in Finland online at RCI about 9 months before our departure. Due to timing and other travels, we only stayed at the resort for 4 nights.

We didn't actually have high expectations for the resort, I think partly because we found very little information about it on the web.

However, once we arrived, we wished we could have stayed longer. From March 20 to March 24, 2006, we spent 4 glorious days relaxing in the cabin, enjoying our private sauna and walking in the snow.

On our way to the resort, we stopped in Porvoo and stocked up with groceries at the local supermarket. (What a great experience buying groceries where everything is labelled in Finnish, especially interesting when picking out the meat!) Porvoo is about 45 minutes east of Helsinki airport.

The resort is easy to find and located about 25 km farther east from Porvoo. We took the back roads and enjoyed the Finnish scenery. Follow the signs to Ronnas and you will have no problems.

The staff was located in the clubhouse on premises. Any questions could be asked there, or by phone to the local managers. There are actually 2 golf courses around the resort and it's a 1 minute walk to the water's edge. The water was frozen when we were there, so it made for a great place to go walking.

Our cabin - #7 - was beautiful and over looked a golf course (although it was covered in snow). It could sleep 8 people very comfortably, had a full kitchen, complete with dishwasher, wood burning fireplace, back deck with BBQ and a private sauna.

Overall we had an amazing and relaxing time in Finland. I could have easily stayed for another week or two to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
