Pre- and Post- Natal Massage
September 2006

Before treating a new or expecting mom to some soothing massage therapy, there are a few key points to be aware of.

Professional massage tables and techniques are even more important for soon-to-be and new moms.

Pillows, props and strategic positioning are all implemented to make moms comfortable.

Also, be aware that expecting mothers should not have aromatherapy incorporated into a treatment. Essential oils are generally not recommended during pregnancy.*

Treatment duration is another factor for moms. As their bodies are changing under stress and pressure or still sensitive in recovery, it may be uncomfortable for them to remain in one position for too long. Shorter sessions are best, no longer than one hour.*
