A Winter Solitude Trip South

It was getting cold at home so our yearly trip south was in a camperized van. Destination - to be in the sun for 3 weeks. I was happy to join Aviawest in September 2005 and anxious to use my points at the first opportunity.

In researching where we would end up, I looked on the RCI site for last minute specials (under 45 days) and found Sedona, Arizona, a favourite part of the country. Because we were travelling in a camperized van, I only booked 2 days at the Sedona Springs Resort, a nice change to the van, during our 3 week trip.

I found the booking of the resort online, to be easy, and also found I could book a side trip - a Jeep tour - online as well, although I didn't use my points for this. (I found the Jeep tour under RCI affiliate organizations within Sedona area.)

With papers in hand, we arrived at the resort on a beautiful sunny day, the red rocks scenery glorious. Easy directions were available on line in the printout describing the resort, which I printed off to take with us.

The staff at the resort were friendly and very helpful, ready to provide information on their beautiful surroundings. Our studio suite was very comfortable, the amenities were clean, in good working condition. We were able to see the outstanding scenery, take the Jeep tour, and feel the spiritual air of this well-renowned area. Of course the weather was always perfect as well so our own spirits were in high gear.

We continued our trip by van to Scottsdale, Carefree and Cave Creek Arizona, spent Christmas and New Year's there and then off to Palms Springs for our final destination before heading back home. All the while, we checked out the other resorts available in these cities for our next trip south.

In future we will be looking at Desert Hot Springs, on the outskirts of Palm Springs, where you can check into a day hot springs resort for a very reasonable price, and have the use of these natural spring waters at varying degrees of heat. It was awesome. A trip we will cherish and look forward to more in the future, using the points system.
