Getting Dirty at Victoria's Gunner Shaw 10K

Admit it: when you’re out for a walk or a run and you come across a big muddy puddle, there’s a part of you that wants to splash through it like a five-year-old in gumboots.
The only thing holding you back – besides having to deal with dirty shoes, socks and uncomfortable feet – is likely the strange looks you’d get from passersby (who would probably just be jealous of all the fun you are having, by the way).
Luckily for us, every November at Victoria BC's Thetis Lake, the Prairie Inn Harriers running club hosts a race that makes it perfectly acceptable to get dirty while you exercise outdoors.
I joined nearly 300 runners in this year’s annual Harriers Gunner Shaw Memorial 10K Cross Country Classic, which was held on Saturday (Nov. 19) at Thetis Lake Regional Park. Although the sun was out and the rain stayed away, there had been enough stormy fall weather leading up to the event to make the trails nice and muddy for race day.
