This weekend: The 19th Annual Fire and Ice Street Festival in Oceanside
If you have a hankerin' for hot chili and you like your sculptures like you enjoy your beer (ice cold!), then head on over to Qualicum Beach on May 7, 2011 for the 19th Annual Fire and Ice Street Festival.
There are up to 25 teams battling it out this year for supreme bragging rights over Oceanside’s tastiest chili, including Pacific Shores's own The Landing West Coast Grill!
Teams from all over Oceanside go head-to-head to see who can tempt the taste buds of the throngs of salivating souls that meander from booth to booth, sampling the wares of these courageous chili aficionados.
The cooking competition gets pretty heated with these teams, fighting over whose chili gets proclaimed Best Professional, Best Amateur and the People’s Choice. Rumour has it that spices are being flown in from all over North America in an attempt to stack the odds in favour of one team or another.
The competition takes place between 11am and 3pm, so it's best to head over to Qualicum bright and early to check out all of the festivities.
In addition to the chili wars, the annual Ice Carving Competition adds another amazing layer to this family friendly event. There will be up to 18 ice carvers from various parts of Western Canada duking it out for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place spots.
Face painting and story time will be taking place once again in the Kid’s Zone, sponsored by Coastal Community Credit Union. Street performers will be mixed in throughout the crowds with a little something for everyone.
Whether your musical tastes are country, folk, rock, or jazz, there will be enough entertainment for all tastes. If you only make it out to one Oceanside event this year, the annual Fire and Ice Street Festival is the one to hit.
Tasting bowls are available for $3 each from festival ticket sellers. Come hungry, wear comfortable shoes or dancing boots, and don’t forget your camera!
