"Checkin" when you check-in for great deals

"Checkin" when you check-in for great deals

Do you Foursquare?

If not, maybe you should start—you can unlock great deals and specials while you travel, just by showing the screen of your smart phone.

Foursquare is a location-based social media application that uses your smart phone's GPS system to "check in" at geographic locations and businesses.

When you "checkin" to a location—like a coffee shop, for example—you can leave tips for other customers ("They make the best scones!") that will show up on a person's smart phone when they are in the area and using Foursquare.

Not only is Foursquare a great way to get local tips and recommendations, but also many businesses offer "specials" when a customer checks in.

For you first time checkin, for example, you may get 50% off your order—all you have to do is show the screen of your smart phone to the counter staff when the "specials" message pops up to get your discount.

It's not just coffee shops and clothing stores offering Foursquare specials, either; hotels, resorts and spas are jumping on the Foursquare bandwagon and offering great specials to guests using Foursquare (to see a list of a few of these, check out this post on HotelChatter.com).

Speaking of spas, did you know AquaTerre Spa at Parkside Victoria has a Foursquare special? First-time checkins on Foursquare at Parkside can get a 10$ gift certificate to AquaTerre Spa!

Simply checkin to Parkside with Foursquare on your smart phone and show the "specials" message that pops up on your phone to the front desk staff at AquaTerre Spa to receive your gift certificate.
