It's better to go on vacation than buy a new couch

Think designer clothing, furnishings and a new car will make you happy? Think again.

A host of new research has finally affirmed what frequent vacationers had figured out long ago: that people are happier when they spend money on experiences instead of material objects.

According to a recent article in the New York Times, researchers have found that people get longer-lasting satisfaction when they spend money on experiences instead of material items.

People felt the most positive when spending money on leisure time, vacations, sports and entertainment - any activity that allows us to be social that we can reminisce about after makes us the most happy, researchers say.

So if you're holding off on that trip you've always dreamed of taking because your living room set is looking rather dated, maybe you should reconsider and discover what truly makes you happy.
