Aviawest's beginnings go back to 1989 when Andrew and Susan Pearson (who have a background in real estate and development) found a spectacular section of waterfront property on the East Coast of Vancouver Island. This property was located on Craig Bay, just south of the beach town of Parksville. At that time, it was 15 acres of prime waterfront being used as a campground and trailer park - the name was Pacific Shores. The Pearson's had other ideas for the area.

They assembled a group of 5 partners and bought the land with the intention to develop it as a whole ownership development, upscale resort condominiums. By the summer of 1990, sales were moving forward but not at the pace the partners had hoped. So, Andrew researched their options. Timeshare, it seemed (more specifically – vacation ownership in perpetuity) seemed a reasonable and viable proposition.

Pacific Shores launched the first sales of their vacation ownership product in April of 1991. Lawrence and James, the Pearson's two sons, began working with Andrew and Susan in 1991 and 1992 respectively – and they haven't looked back since.

Sales continued to grow and in 1993, the Pearson's arranged to buy out their 5 partners for one new partner – local Triple H Constructions Group. It was a good fit, as Doug Hill had known Andrew for 35+ years it meant implicit trust and respect. In addition, Doug's two son's Mike and Rob were partners in their family business, which matched well with the Pearson group.

By the year 2000, the Pearson's were ready to exercise their option to buy the Hill's interest. Finally, with 100% of the company, they could develop something they had planned for years: a multi-destination, real-estate driven vacation club. It would give purchasers greater flexibility than traditional timeshare - single night stays and a home group of properties to choose from. The concept came to fruition in June of 2002 as Aviawest Resort Club.

Aviawest now has 5 destinations and is working on its biggest and most special project to date Parkside Victoria Resort & Spa, located just behind the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC will have 126 suites.
